THERE ARE TWO THINGS I KNOW as sure as I know the sun will rise: God is good and He is faithful. I have a view of the sunrise every morning to remind me of the faithfulness of my Lord. As long as the sun rises, God will fulfill His Word. As the sun is faithful to come up every morning, how much more is it’s Creator faithful? Are you in a difficult season? Do you feel so depressed that you cannot look up? Maybe you’re in a time of rejoicing and everything is coming up roses? Has there been a sudden calamity? Or maybe you haven’t heard that still, small voice for months on a certain subject?
“Yes, let us know (recognize, be acquainted with, and understand) Him; let us be zealous to know the Lord [to appreciate, give heed to, and cherish Him]. His going forth is prepared and certain as the dawn, and He will come to us as the [heavy] rain, as the latter rain that waters the earth.” Hosea 6:3
Listen friend, your circumstances do not change who God is, nor do your feelings have anything to do with the matter. His character remains constant. He is good and He is faithful. I remember a day when I thought nothing in my life would ever change, I felt stuck and entirely discouraged. I have fallen into depression from time to time and dealt with a panic disorder most of my adult life. I have had physical problems and suffered with a heart arrhythmia, I have presently been healed from. Praise Jesus! But, I’ve experienced loss and I have felt lost and forgotten. I have been abandoned, rejected, defeated and betrayed more times than I can count. Life is a series of mountains and valleys and I have had to change my mind and my thoughts, sometimes a hundred times a day. Yet, God does not change.
““For I am the Lord, I do not change; Therefore you are not consumed, O sons of Jacob.”
Malachi 3:6
There is no shadow of turning with Him. He remains good and He remains faithful. It is the steadfast character and nature of God that we can rely on Him, regardless of how we feel or what we are experiencing. He cannot lie, neither does He believe the lie. He cannot be coerced nor can you manipulate Him. He does whatsoever He pleases. God is good and He is faithful. However, your trust must be in Him, not in what you want Him to do. Trust Him to act only in accordance with His character and know that the outcome will be for your good, as surely as the sun will rise.
“The Rock, his work is perfect, for all his ways are justice. A God of faithfulness and without iniquity, just and upright is He.” Deut 32:4
