WHO REMEMBERS THE POPULAR worship song, “Oceans”? There’s a line that sings, “Spirit lead me where my trust is without borders”, great lyrics, yet every time I hear this song I think, “really”? People loved this song- it’s a beautiful song and the music is powerful, but did you know when you sing a song to God that He takes you at your word?
A song is somewhat like a prayer and your words do not fall on deaf ears. You are singing to the Creator of the universe. He takes those words seriously. Do you really want God to take you out into the deep where you can’t touch or even see land? And you have no life jacket? I believe that’s the place where you actually begin to trust God because you have no one else to trust, especially not yourself. The deep is the place that the Lord would have us all- but are you willing to go there? Will you let the Spirit lead you into deep waters? Daniel trusted in the Lord and because he trusted, he was saved from being eaten by lions,
“Then the king was greatly pleased and ordered that Daniel be taken out of the den. So Daniel was taken out of the den, and no injury whatever was found on him, because he believed in and relied on and trusted in his God.” DANIEL 6:23
No injuries, not a scratch because he trusted God to save him. If you are relying on yourself and your own strength, then you are not trusting God. If everything is comfortable, then you are probably not trusting God. If you are running around like a chicken with its head cut off, you’re probably not trusting God. Worry is not of the Lord. Fretting is not of God.
Doubt and disbelief are tools of the enemy that destroy peace. God is the God of all peace, but peace is found in trust. He wants you to trust Him with every single detail of your life- marriage, job, kids, health; all things are to be submitted to Jesus. When you proclaim, “I believe in Jesus!” Do you even understand what this means? The word “believe” literally means “trust in, rely on, have faith in”. That word doesn’t mean what many think it means. To believe is to have a deep, abiding trust in the Lord to see me through this life until I finish my race and help me through whatever obstacles are on my path. Trust without borders.
And stop singing songs to Him that you don’t really mean.
