ANXIETY. WORRY. DOUBT. FEAR. Fretting. Pacing. Ruminating on your problems. Does any of this plague you? I met with a group of ladies the other day and we were discussing prayer and the following verse of scripture,
“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7
I could spend my whole life working on, “Be anxious for nothing.” I’m not sure how you read that, but the word “nothing” does not leave any room for anything. Scripture doesn’t say, “be anxious for only a few things like your health, your children, your aging parents, your job, and your bills”. Let me repeat it for those in the back, Be anxious for nothing.
Are you anxious? Do you fret and worry? Where is the 1st place you run to? Are you trusting yourself or others with your problems? We are supposed to first go to the Lord in prayer, trust Him with all things, and then thank Him that He hears and will handle it in His time. You can seek counsel from others, but trust is only the Lord. I want to live in peace, not chaos and confusion. It’s the very reason there’s people who are not a part of my life, they only bring chaos to the table. Bye. His peace will only be available to you as much as you allow Him access to your worries and problems.
“You will keep the mind that is dependent on You in perfect peace, for it is trusting in You.”
Isaiah 26:3 HCSB
Peace comes as you focus your mind and thoughts on Jesus and in His ability to handle the situation. If you make Jesus big, then you have little problems. But if you make your problems big, then you make Jesus little. Whatever you focus on will become magnified. How big is your God? I serve the Creator of the universe, there’s nothing my God cannot do.
There’s nothing He won’t do for those who love Him. There’s no mountain I cannot move and no fig tree I cannot curse with my God. My God rains manna from dry clouds and opens up the Red Sea so I can walk through on dry ground. My God makes rivers in the desert places and feeds me with food that is convenient for me. He has me in His faithful hands and will never forsake me. He heals all my diseases and makes the barren wife to rejoice with a whole houseful of children.
“Is anything impossible for the Lord? At the appointed time I will come back to you, and in about a year she will have a son.””
Genesis 18:14 HCSB
“Oh, Lord God! You Yourself made the heavens and earth by Your great power and with Your outstretched arm. Nothing is too difficult for You!” Jeremiah 32:17 HCSB
Please tell me again what is too difficult for God? The answer is not in what I can see or in my ability to do a thing; but trust in His ability. What is too hard for Him? I challenge you today to begin working on being anxious for nothing.
