Under the banner of family — 

• -For some, having the perfect spouse is an idol and marriages get ruined because of this. -For some, having a spouse is an idol and disastrous decisions are made. 
• -For some, having the perfect children are an idol and you run your kids into the ground. *Conversely.. parents can, and often do, from a place of emotion, love and cherish children so much that they become overly indulgent ruin them. Love them, support them, but prepare them for life. FYI.. your little treasures are going to get a rude awakening when they get out into the real world and find out that nobody finds them special, or cares about how they feel. 
• -Treading lightly.. But for some, having children is an idol, and immense bitterness can develop. 
• There are so many ways to develop covetousness and idolatry in family. God first and a Christ centered home is the answer. 
• Luke 14:26 If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple. 
• Is sex an idol?
• I don’t like talking about it on a Sunday morning, but going there today. Clutch your pearls if you want, but this isn’t the first time your kids have heard that word and they know more about that subject than you’d like to acknowledge. 
• God has a plan and has made proclamation concerning human sexuality. Per the Word of God it is within the bounds of marriage, monogamous, hetero. As God’s wedding gift, it is for procreation and for pleasure, and when within the boundaries established by God, it is pure. 
• Tragically, Christians have done an awful job honoring God in this way, but the fact holds that anything outside of God’s plan for human sexuality is a distortion. Losing sight of God’s plan for sex and sexuality has created a lack of moderation and over indulgence at best, and total perversion at worst. 
• Heb 13:4 Marriage is honorable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge. 
• Every single thing that the grouchy old preachers with the pointed fingers said was a slippery slope has been proven true. May their warnings echo when you hear about drag queen story hour for children coming to a library near you. Yes, it’s a thing, there have been many, and they will be in schools soon enough. If you won’t draw a line on that, you won’t draw a line on anything. Access to children is the endgame is the obsession of the sexual revolution and they don’t even hide it anymore. I’ve spoken at the local schoolboard meetings to keep males out of female locker rooms. It amounted to nothing, but I had to take a stand and speak truth in love because kids in my flock are in that district. Protect your children. Once innocence is gone it is gone for good. Children should be oblivious and teenagers should blush. 
• Rom 1:32 Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them. 
• The depraved sexual revolution has become an idol that must be appeased in massive portions of Christianity. This is a loud and powerful siren song promising safe passage to all who go with the flow. Honor God, and don’t get swept away in that current. As an authentic Christian you don’t get to be unkind, but you don’t get to invent a false Jesus that is OK with everything. 
• Pornography is evil, and will rot you to the core. Not just men and young men falling prey anymore either. There is a movement among lost young men and women alike, not bible thumpers, to quit porn.. Because it has corrupted them to a point where they cannot even connect with other human beings. It has affected their entire beings and pulled them out into the perverted abyss and they are trying to find their way back to reality. 
• Sexual addictions are an epidemic. We live in this time when our culture is hypersexualized.. and it’s by evil design, and it gives a dopamine hit and appeals to the sinful nature. But God has a plan otherwise. This fallen world had tried to distort that which is pure. Guard against this idol in its many forms. 
• Is addiction an idol? 
• I have a highly addictive personality. It’s easy to become addicted to things in our culture when we have such easy access to so much vice, also understanding that things that aren’t necessarily bad can become bad when addiction enters in. 
• Many people struggle with drugs, both legal and illegal. Just because something is legal does not make it right. Addiction to drugs is sad and brutal and unrelenting. People have killed, stolen from their grandmothers and sold their children to satisfy this addiction. Just because something is prescribed, talking pain meds here, doesn’t mean it can’t become an addiction that controls your life.
• Alcohol? I don’t partake and we don’t keep it in the home or offer to guests. Lot’s of reasons. While the consumption of adult beverage isn’t prohibited in the word; drunkenness is. If you cannot manage responsibly, as I would likely not be able, don’t manage at all. Not with the risk. I’ve only seen alcohol hurt and destroy. If you need one or two daily to wind down then you are by admission already dependent. I’d recommend prayer as a better way. 
• The saddest thing you’ll ever participate in is an intervention. Hard truth, but you cannot believe a word out of the mouth of an alcoholic or drug addict. 
• Already hit sexual addiction in its various forms. 
• Workaholic used to be more of a thing… more of a boomer problem. Now you can’t get people to work. But if you can’t work without obsessing; you may have a problem. If you die on the job, they will miss you, and then resent you for dying and creating a backlog, and they will replace you, and then they will forget about you the moment someone else is sitting at your desk. So work, and work hard, but don’t worship your boss. He or she isn’t going to be handing out golden crowns in heaven. 
• Addicted to politics? You know who you are. Knock it off! You are wearing everyone out. 
• Food addiction is one that resonates with many of us.. Sometimes food is all people can think about or talk about, and we overindulge. As a society we are poisoning ourselves with food, and over-sugared. The average person eats 100x the sugar/glucose that the average person ate 100 years ago. We need moderation and self-control. 
• Oddly, conversely, health and wellness can also become an addiction and an idol, albeit not for very many. We have an epidemic of sugar consumption and sitting around in this country. We do not have an epidemic of low carb and drinking lots of water. 
• Don’t even get me started on the Covid scam. Every single thing that was said about that virus has been a lie.. Where it came from, who was involved with the Wuhan lab, 2 weeks to flatten the curve, the lethality of the virus, the tabulation of covid deaths, that it is a danger to kids, that shutdowns work, that masks work, that the vaccine will prevent transmission, that the vaccine will save lives, that they vaccine is safe and effective, the demonization of the non-compliant.. The experts were wrong at every turn and denied the science at every turn. How much did these control freaks take from you? But like I said, don’t get me started. Not getting covid became quite the demanding idol, if we are looking for a relevant example. It started as a health concern, and turned into an addiction to fear. 
• 1Cor 6:12 All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any. 
• Christians are to be under the control of the HS and bring their bodies under subjection. For some addictions, the solution is moderation and modesty. For some addictions, the solution is repentance, scorched earth, and sobriety. 
• Addictions will always be put ahead of God, and will always be worshiped and accommodated as a false God in your life.
