Exodus 14:15-31 Not one of them remained
- Moses reassures the Israelites, Egyptians are coming after them, Stuck between the enemy and the sea, Moses tells them to trust God! Deliverance is coming! God tells Moses to stretch out his hand, the waters will part, and they will cross on dry land. There’s an Angel of God, pillar of Cloud that creates a barrier, Protected them and guided them.
- The sea is divided by a strong east wind, forming walls on either side. They walk through on dry ground! Egyptians try to follow them, but Moses lifts his hand again, and the Egyptians all drown. They witness the power of God and are filled with awe and fear. They sing praises because of what God does for them in rescuing them from their enemies.
- This is a powerful story of God’s redemption, protection and judgement
- 28 Then the waters returned and covered the chariots, the horsemen, and all the army of Pharaoh that came into the sea after them. Not so much as one of them remained. 29 But the children of Israel had walked on dry land in the midst of the sea, and the waters were a wall to them on their right hand and on their left.30 So the Lord saved Israel that day out of the hand of the Egyptians, and Israel saw the Egyptians dead on the seashore. 31 Thus Israel saw the great [h]work which the Lord had done in Egypt; so the people feared the Lord, and believed the Lord and His servant Moses.
- There’s two groups here- Those who were saved- and those who were destroyed.
- God’s people have a promise to be protected-
- Isaiah 43:2 “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, Nor shall the flame scorch you.”
- Psalm 34:7 “The angel of the Lord encamps all around those who fear Him, And delivers them.”
- If you are in Christ, a believer in Jesus Christ you are not going to be destroyed
- Romans 8:1 “There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.” John 5:24 “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life.” 1 Thessalonians 5:9 “For God did not appoint us to wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,” John 3:16-17 “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.” Romans 5:9 “Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him.” 2 Corinthians 5:21 “For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.” Colossians 1:13-14 “He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins.”
- But God punishes the wicked. He destroys those who are wicked evil doers. He promises it
- Psalm 7:11 God is a just judge, And God is angry with the wicked every day.
- The Egyptians, and the Pharoah had been enslaving God’s people for centuries, and he was an evil wicked man. Pharoah knows he’s wicked. He knows he’s coming against God
- Side Note- Most non-believers know when they oppose- Self Righteous Christians- not so much
- Exodus 9:27 And Pharaoh sent and called for Moses and Aaron, and said to them, “I have sinned this time. The Lord is righteous, and my people and I are wicked.
- It was promised that they would be delivered by God by his hand.
- Exodus 6: 6 Therefore say to the children of Israel: ‘I am the Lord; I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians, I will rescue you from their bondage, and I will redeem you with [an outstretched arm and with great judgments.
- Why is it even important to talk about the judgment of the wicked and evil?

- One- If you are not a Christian and you’re listening to this sermon live or online, you need to understand that God’s wrath is a real thing for the destruction of the wicked.
- God’s wrath refers to His righteous anger or indignation directed towards sin and disobedience. It is a reflection of His holiness, justice, and moral perfection.
- Two- When you have no standard and no punishment, you can’t understand Love
- My Theory- Undisciplined children don’t feel as loved bc they have no STANDARD to meet
- When there’s a standard you say “im meeting it, I’m loved” no standard, cant know love.
- Ecclesiastes 12:14 For God will bring every work into judgment, including every secret thing, whether good or evil.
- 2 Corinthians 5:10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad.”
- Preaching about the judgment and wrath of God hasn’t been commonplace in the Church
- Its created a sloppy agape licentious spirit where people believe God never addresses sin
- Looking on Google ngram- usage of words over past 200 years- Wrath of God, Judgement of God, sin. Large decrease in 200 years. HUGE increase, forgiveness, love, tolerance,
- Word usage shows that this isn’t a theme that is pervasive in culture. Don’t like it. Church failing
- Who is wicked in the Bible?
- Those who practice perversity deceit and discord Pr 6:12-15
- Those who reject God’s law and wisdom: Proverbs 1:7-9
- Those who refuse to repent: Ezekiel 18:21-23 READ God takes NO Pleasure in their destruciton
- Those who oppose God’s people (seek harm) harm the poor: Psalm 37:12-15
- Those who mock God and His commands: Psalm 10:3-4 describes the arrogance of the wicked who scoff at God’s judgments and believe they will never be held accountable.
- Gal 5:19 adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like;
- Why does God punish the wicked
- Justice and Righteousness: God is a just and righteous judge
- Psalm 7:11 God is a just judge, And God is angry with the wicked every day.
- God has created us and is the standard for morality and goodness.
- His nature demands that evil and wickedness has consequences. It cannot go unchecked
- People love sports- because there are rules. We like clear parameters that are held to.
- “you will reap what you sow”- When God punishes the wicked, it demonstrates justice.
- Deterrence and Correction: God’s punishment serves as a deterrent against sin and disobedience
- De 13:11 So all Israel shall hear and fear, and not again do such wickedness as this among you.
- If you have a brain, when you see someone get punished for a crime, it deters you from doing it
- This is why our state is in shambles- there is no punishment for the evildoer. No deterrent.
- When you witness the consequences of wickedness, you’ll turn away from sin and choose righteousness. Currently in society, there is less punishment for the wicked- will destroy us
- punishment can also serve as a means of correction, guiding you back onto the path of righteousness
- Heb12:6 For whom the Lord loves He chastens, And scourges every son whom He receives.
- Protection of the Innocent: Punishing the wicked protects the innocent and vulnerable from harm
- Psalm 37:28 For the Lord loves justice, And does not forsake His saints; They are preserved forever, But the descendants of the wicked shall be cut off.
- God’s judgment ensures that evildoers cannot continue to oppress or harm others without facing consequences. God protects the innocent from the predators. So should society.
- God’s punishment serves to promote the well-being and safety of His people. All people.
- Pr 21:15 It is a joy for the just to do justice, But destruction will come to the workers of iniquity.
- Ultimate Accountability: God’s punishment shows the reality of accountability before Him .
- Romans 14:12 So then each of us shall give account of himself to God.
- It reminds humanity of their responsibility to live according to God’s standards and the inevitability of facing judgment for their actions.
- This accountability emphasizes the seriousness of moral choices and the need for repentance and reconciliation with God.
- Manifestation of God’s Holiness: Punishment of the wicked also manifests God’s holiness and sovereignty
- You’ll see in chp 15 Exodus 15:11 “Who is like You, O Lord, among the gods? Who is like You, glorious in holiness, Fearful in praises, doing wonders?
- The response to the destruction of the wicked was praise.
- the holy and almighty Creator, God cannot tolerate sin and rebellion indefinitely.
- punishment demonstrates His authority over all creation and upholds the sanctity of His name.
- What is the punishment of the wicked
- Temporary Consequences: In this life, the wicked may face current consequences for their actions, including suffering, hardship, and the natural outcomes of their sinful behavior (Proverbs 13:21; Galatians 6:7-8). These consequences serve as warnings and opportunities for repentance.
- Eternal Separation from God: The ultimate punishment for the wicked is eternal separation from God, often described as spiritual death or being cast away from God’s presence (Matthew 25:41; Revelation 20:15). This separation represents a state of eternal suffering and alienation from the source of life and goodness.
- Judgment and Condemnation: The wicked will face judgment before God, where their deeds will be evaluated and they will be held accountable for their actions (Hebrews 9:27; Revelation 20:12). Those who have rejected God’s offer of salvation through Jesus Christ will be condemned to eternal punishment.
- Eternal Torment: The Bible speaks of the wicked experiencing eternal torment in a place often referred to as hell or the lake of fire (Matthew 25:46; Revelation 20:10). This torment is described as a place of unquenchable fire, outer darkness, and weeping and gnashing of teeth.
- Second Death: In Revelation, the concept of the “second death” is introduced, which refers to the eternal separation from God and the ultimate fate of the wicked in the lake of fire (Revelation 20:14-15). This second death represents a final, irreversible state of spiritual destruction.
The Curve of Scripture
- Daniel 12:2 And many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, Some to everlasting life, Some to shame and everlasting contempt.
- 2 Thessalonians 1:9 These shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power
- Matthew 25:41 Then He will also say to those on the left hand, ‘Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels:
- Jesus talked about Hell more than anyone else in the Bible- Jesus doesn’t only reference hell, he describes it in great detail. He says it is a place of eternal torment (Luke 16:23), of unquenchable fire (Mark 9:43), where the worm does not die (Mark 9:48), where people will gnash their teeth in anguish and regret (Matt. 13:42), and from which there is no return, even to warn loved ones (Luke 16:19–31). He calls hell a place of “outer darkness” (Matt. 25:30), comparing it to “Gehenna” (Matt. 10:28),
- Punishment is real in Jesus preaching! It doesn’t negate God’s love, it is PROOF of God’s love
- Revelation 21:8 “But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.”
- Bless GOD There’s a remedy!

- When we read about the Red Sea- we love and believe the miracle- but part of the salvation was the punishment of the wicked. Israel was saved because they were God’s people
- We, as God’s people will be saved from destruction! We don’t have to fear Hell!
- We have a constant reminder of the consequences of sin, but that just give us “holy fear’
- Romans 5:8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us Romans 10:9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.
- John 3:17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.
- He wants to save you! He wants to set you free from your sin! He gave the Egyptians AMPLE chances to repent and turn from their wickedness and escape destruction. YOU DO TO- YOU KNOW where you’re at and where you’re going- You think you have time, but you don’t.
- Ephesians 1:7 In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace.

- 1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
- Today is the day of Salvation! Come to Jesus!
