“BROTHER, IF ANY MAN thinks ill of you, do not be angry with him; for you are worse than he thinks you to be. If he charges you falsely on some point, yet be satisfied, for if he knew you better he might change the accusation.”
This quote by Spurgeon has truly been etched on my heart. I deserve nothing. I have nothing, I can do nothing and I am entirely nothing if it had not been for the Lord. In the past, I’ve always tried to defend myself; but not anymore. I am worse than you think me to be. If I didn’t do what you accuse me of, be sure I’ve done far worse. Here’s some wisdom,
“For there is not a just man on earth who does good And does not sin. Also do not take to heart everything people say, Lest you hear your servant cursing you. For many times, also, your own heart has known That even you have cursed others.” Ecc 7:20-22
I commune with my own heart and I know this to be true. Why should I be defensive or in my own self righteousness declare, “I have done nothing!” When I know myself I have spoken bad about others, I have used others and manipulated for my own self interests. Listen friend, if there’s any hint of pride in you, Satan will exploit it. Self righteousness is a rotten, cancerous cell that spreads. If someone slaps your cheek, turn and give them the other. Don’t get all riled up when someone who doesn’t know you and has never had a conversation with you attacks your motives. (I’m reminding myself)
“Blessed are the meek, For they shall inherit the earth.” Matthew 5:5
The word “meek” does not mean weak or quiet like a mouse. The main meaning behind biblical meekness is the ability to take injury/insult and false accusations without retaliation of any kind. When someone accuses you of wrongdoing that you know you have done, you should accept it. But meekness is the ability to accept their false accusations and do nothing in return. This was the character of our Lord and Savior. The meek person has surrendered everything to the Lord and His control. They bear injustice patiently and without bitterness.
The meek can get angry, but in the right place, time and manner. Typically, it’s a righteous anger against sin. Remember Jesus words and whips? “My house shall be called a house of prayer and you have made it a den of thieves!” Meekness is a characteristic of one under the control of the Spirit and accepts God’s dealings as good without disputing or resisting His work in their lives because they trust in Him.
Leave it alone and TRUST GOD. Pray for those who falsely accuse you. I know this is a hard thing to do. Bearing false accusations is difficult. I know. But don’t try to defend yourself. It will only blow up in your face. Do things the Bible way and get the Bible results. He is yours and my strong Defender and He will bring everything to light in time.
