We have the Mind of Christ – 1 Corinthians 2:6-16
- Last Wednesday Pastor Crystal spoke on a true conversion – one that is not hidden by big words and outward knowledge but one that is a reflection on the true inside conversion.
- The difference between being a Nissan or a Mitsubishi
- Paul has clearly indicated that he is not wise and that he only speaks Christ, when he says;
- 1 Corinthians 2:2 For I resolved to know nothing (to be acquainted with nothing, to make a display of the knowledge of nothing, and to be conscious of nothing) among you except Jesus Christ (the Messiah) and Him crucified.
- Sound like he doesn’t leave any room for any other interpretation
- And here is the Kicker – with such submissions come the power of the Holy Spirit that gives him and other believers Spiritual wisdom – wisdom that can only come from the Lord
- He is writing to these believers and saying, when you are in Christ there are huge benefits that come with walking with God – Great mysteries that can only be for those who have the mind of Christ
- Paul draws a huge distinction about the natural man and the Spiritual man
- Natural man, just sees the surface but the Spiritual man is one that is guided by the Holy Spirit
- The spiritual man has access to knowledge of the mysteries of God – Mysteries that has been put in place only for those that love Christ
- Mystery wisdom is so rich that the rulers of the world thought they were victorious when they crucified Christ only to later realize that they were aiding in a plan that was set before time – Joke on them
- Such that there those who are in the inside circle and others are clearly not
- It’s been written – Vs 9(Nkjv) : Eye has not seen, nor ear heard,
Nor have entered into the heart of man
The things which God has prepared for those who love Him.” - And the opposite of that is:
- Vs 14: But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
- For the Spirit searches all things and shows us Gods deep secrets
- He poses a great question and asks? Who can know God’s thoughts except God’s Spirit- which is in every born again believer
- This Spirit of God we have received, reveals to us wonderful things of God
- Those that are led by the Spirit of God can evaluate all thing –but they themselves cannot be evaluated or understood by others
And He concludes with a very strong and powerful statement – We understand these things for we have the Mind of Christ
The song that comes to mind when I read this is:
- Who am that you mind of me, that you hear me when I call..is it true that you are thinking of me – how you love me – It’s amazing – I am a friend of God – He calls me friend
- John 15:15(Nkjv) No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you.
- Growing up – my auntie was only 2 years older than me- more like a sister – we came up with a special language that we could only understand – unlike God, ours was for mischief
- We get a closeness with Christ that the world cannot understand
- That they think we are crazy when we have joy that makes no sense
- Ephesians 3:18-19 (Nlt) And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. 19 May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.
- God has a wisdom that is reserved for this people and if there was a time we needed wisdom, its now
- He knows that in this world there will be noise around us and if we are willing to be tuned to His frequency, he will order our steps to where He needs us to be
- The story about Hiking
- Mt Si
- 3 miles in – about to hit a wall
- John 14:26 (Ampc) But the Comforter (Counselor, Helper, Intercessor, Advocate, Strengthener, Standby), the Holy Spirit, Whom the Father will send in My name [in My place, to represent Me and act on My behalf], He will teach you all things. And He will cause you to recall (will remind you of, bring to your remembrance) everything I have told you
Paul is saying that without the Holy Spirit:
- We see, experience and speak with worldly knowledge
- And the Bible is clear from the heart the mouth speaks – our hearts are hence filled with things of the world
- 1 John 2:15-16(Nkjv) Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world.
- Without the Holy Spirit no one can understand what God is doing in their lives – its foolishness to the natural man
- Hence it leads us to:
- Poor judgement of all situations – vs 15 (Ampc) But the spiritual man tries all things [he [a]examines, investigates, inquiries into, questions, and discerns all things], yet is himself to be put on trial and judged by no one [he can read the meaning of everything, but no one can properly discern or appraise or get an insight into him].
- You are not safe – you are vulnerable to the attacks of the enemy – you don’t get to be hidden under the arm of the father
- James 1:5 (Nkjv) If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.
- Jeremiah 33:3 ( Nkjv) Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and [a]mighty things, which you do not know.’
- Psalms 91:14 (Nkjv) “Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him;
I will [a]set him on high, because he has known My name. He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him and honor him. - This evening I want to remind you that this Spiritual wisdom is available for you, all you need to do is ask
For those who do not know Christ
- – know that there is one that died on the Cross for you
- John 3:16-18 (Nkjv) For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. 17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. “He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
- I love the simplicity of the Gospel of Jesus Christ – and this is what Paul is speaking in this chapter, that sometimes-big words get in the way and we talk “Christian code” and confuse those that don’t speak “Christianize”
- I feel like today’s message might come out like it’s for mature Christian only -however its for all of us to know that there at treasures hidden and saved for those who accept Christ
- Matthew 6:33 (Nkjv)- But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
- And for those of you that are already walking with Christ – the Bible is very clear, quit walking with you own wisdom
- 1 Corinthians 3:18 (NkjV) Stop deceiving yourselves. If you think you are wise by this world’s standards, you need to become a fool to be truly wise. 19 For the wisdom of this world is foolishness to God. As the Scriptures say, “He traps the wise in the snare of their own cleverness.” And again, “The Lord knows the thoughts of the wise; he knows they are worthless
- Luke 11:13-14 – So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him.”
- John 15:7 (Nlt) – But if you remain in me and my words remain in you, you may ask for anything you want, and it will be granted!
- Ladies as you head to the women retreat this weekend, my prayer for you is to walk in the Spirit. God has specific wisdom for each one of you. Dismiss you own wisdom, lean into the Holy Spirit and fight to stay in His presence
- Last Sunday was a beautiful Sunday – we got to honor our senior Pastors whom we love very much: And it was also another great day which held a huge significance to Eva and I – 14 years ago on Sunday, we moved to Washington
- The Holy Spirit directed us here
- The Holy Spirit kept us here
- The Holy Spirit has seen us this far
- Greater things are yet to be done in this place through the power of the Holy Spirit
- I believe that this weekend, greater things are going to be done – and this year of expectation, greater things are yet to be done here at FVC
- 1 Corinthians 2:16 (Amp) For who has known the mind and purposes of the Lord, so as to instruct Him? But we have the mind of Christ [to be guided by His thoughts and purposes].
