A world gone wrong Genesis 6:1-8 (NLT)
Then the people began to multiply on the earth, and daughters were born to them. 2 The sons of God saw the beautiful women[a] and took any they wanted as their wives. 3 Then the Lord said, “My Spirit will not put up with[b] humans for such a long time, for they are only mortal flesh. In the future, their normal lifespan will be no more than 120 years.”
4 In those days, and for some time after, giant Nephilites lived on the earth, for whenever the sons of God had intercourse with women, they gave birth to children who became the heroes and famous warriors of ancient times.
5 The Lord observed the extent of human wickedness on the earth, and he saw that everything they thought or imagined was consistently and totally evil. 6 So the Lord was sorry he had ever made them and put them on the earth. It broke his heart. 7 And the Lord said, “I will wipe this human race I have created from the face of the earth. Yes, and I will destroy every living thing—all the people, the large animals, the small animals that scurry along the ground, and even the birds of the sky. I am sorry I ever made them.” 8 But Noah found favor with the Lord.
- A lot has happened since the creation of the earth/man and now here we are in Genesis 6 and man is not doing well at all
- As a matter of fact, the Bible say that – God saw that everything they thought or imagined was consistently and totally evil
- God has given them grace over grace:
- He forgave their sin and actually shed blood to cloth them
- He has forgiven Cane for killing his brother
- He had to restrain Himself from wiping the man off the face of the earth
- And fast forward, many years later- Moses has to remind God to relent from destroying the Israelites
- At this point the world in the eyes of God has gone wrong – He want to wipe humanity off the face of the earth
- 7 And the Lord said, “I will wipe this human race I have created from the face of the earth. Yes, and I will destroy every living thing—all the people, the large animals, the small animals that scurry along the ground, and even the birds of the sky. I am sorry I ever made them.”
- It’s almost like humanity is oblivious to the impending danger as they continue to find ways to sin – ways to go against the nature and creation plan of God
- Unfortunately, no matter the price or restrictions- Man still finds a way to sin and sin he has mastered – corrupting what is Holy
- Sadly, I wish this was an isolated incident – the same sin nature continue to pursue us and honesty win in many cases
- 1. Pay attention to sin
- In Genesis 3:9 -11(Nlt) – The beginning of man’s fall has begun – Eve & snake e.t.c
- Then the Lord God called to the man, “Where are you?”10 He replied, “I heard you walking in the garden, so I hid. I was afraid because I was naked.” 11 “Who told you that you were naked?” the Lord God asked. “Have you eaten from the tree whose fruit I commanded you not to eat?”
-
- Who told you that you have sinned?
-
- Did you sin- did you do what I have told you not to?
-
- How did sin get to you Adam?
- Adam response – it’s the woman that you gave me
- Gensis 3:13 (Nlt) – The Lord said to the woman – 13 Then the Lord God said to the woman, “What is this that you have done?” – how is it that you let sin in?
- In a perfect place – God’s presence and provision in there daily, yet sin finds its way in
- The Psalmist in Proverbs 30:28 (NLT) says – Lizards—they are easy to catch, but they are found even in kings’ palaces.
- Meaning: Even something small and vulnerable finds its way into the most guarded spaces.
- Sin is the same way – the little crack, a little deception – Even the Bible warns us in 1 Corinthians 10:12— be careful you stand – least you fall
- Sin found a way in heaven, satan and took with him angels
- Pay attention to sin, it has a way of forcing its way in
- Genesis 6:2(NLT) – that the sons of God saw that the daughters of men were beautiful and – and they took whomever they choose and desired
- There is a debate on what “Son’s of God are in this verse:
- The line of Seth – whom God set apart – that they married the line of Cain, whom God cursed
- The other meaning is that these were fallen angel – The ha’elohim – Angelic beings
- The Bible say that they slept with human daughters and bore these huge men – giants – Nephilim who were on earth in those days and sometime after
- Whether they were angels or sons of Cain – one thing that is common is that sin found a way in
- This was against the order of God
- They didn’t pay attention to sin – but sin was paying attention to them
- Sin seems to find its way in everything – We cannot ignore sin – we should put a bell on sin (like the story of the cat)
- A group of mice were tired of being hunted by a cat. They held a meeting to come up with a plan to stay safe. One young mouse suggested an idea: they should hang a bell around the cat’s neck so they could hear it coming and escape in time. Everyone thought it was a brilliant idea and cheered—until one old, wise mouse asked a simple question:
“Who will bell the cat? “Suddenly, the room went silent because no one was brave enough to take the risk.
- Revelation 5:2–5 (NLT) And I saw a strong angel, who shouted with a loud voice: “Who is worthy to break the seals on this scroll and open it?” 3 But no one in heaven or on earth or under the earth was able to open the scroll and read it. 4 Then I began to weep bitterly because no one was found worthy to open the scroll and read it. 5 But one of the twenty-four elders said to me, “Stop weeping! Look, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the heir to David’s throne,[a] has won the victory. He is worthy to open the scroll and its seven seals.
- Revelation 5:9 (NLT) And they sang a new song with these words: “You are worthy to take the scroll
and break its seals and open it.
For you were slaughtered, and your blood has ransomed people for God
from every tribe and language and people and nation.
- The enemy has already been “belled” – We only need to BE STILL and listen to the sound
- We need to be vigilant because the devil – God’s and man’s enemy is roaming around like a roaring ( he is loud/Bell) around looking for prey
- Sin has a way of undermining what God has set apart for men
- A place of peace and provision – Gods protection, His daily presence
- You wonderfully and beautifully made, but the sin of doubt, fear, comparison, lust, greed – has undermined what God did in you – Creation & Cross
- And now- The year of man are shortened significantly – . 3 Then the Lord said, “My Spirit will not put up with[b] humans for such a long time, for they are only mortal flesh. In the future, their normal lifespan will be no more than 120 years.”
- Sin has become that vine that starts out small, Did God really say – to being part of the wall and now the wall has to come down in order to separate the vine from the wall
- Sin does not quit – if anything, sin has gotten more bold (bolder) over time
- It has taken many mighty people down – and it continues to do so today
- Samson, Demus, Saul – the list goes on even today
- Pay attention to sin – you can’t afford to keep your eyes off it
- Genesis 4:7(Amp)- If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin crouches at your door; its desire is for you, but you must master it.
- 1 Peter 5:8 (Amp)- Be well balanced (temperate, sober of mind), be vigilant and cautious at all times; for that enemy of yours, the devil, roams around like a lion roaring [[a]in fierce hunger], seeking someone to seize upon and devour.
- 2. A broken heart
- No one want their heart to be broken – I don’t care who you are – we don’t wake up saying today I am looking for some to break my heart
- And that is why these words that we casually read have so much weight
- Genesis 6:6 (AMP) -The Lord [a]regretted that He had made mankind on the earth, and He was [deeply] grieved in His heart. Man, broke God’s heart
- Some versions will say that God regretted that He made man – but the true meaning is that He was deeply pained!!
- Because God judges the intention of the heart and He say that every intent that man had – was not to glorify Him but satisfy their human desire!
- Man was not interested in working towards redemption and keeping God’s commandment – He continued to craft ways to break His heart even more so
- And today the same is true- man is on a race to find ways to sin – Man’s intentions
- are bent on breaking Gods heart – no matter what label we put on it sin – our intention are the same
- God heart is broken – over and over
- Yet, He still find ways to turn our faces towards him – son, stop looking over there – over here, Daughter – stop looking over there – over here
- He reminds us over and over again that – He is the truth, the way and life
- Sin just wants to destroy you – But He have come that you may have life and have life to the fullest
- God is Holy and no matter how much it pains Him, He will not associate with sin – He will not affirm your sin or your desire- He will destroy the wall taken over by the vine/sin
- 3 Then the Lord said, “My Spirit will not put up with[b] humans for such a long time, for they are only mortal flesh
- God said, I will not contend with man’s rebellion endlessly
- God has a limit – Bible, He will give you over to sin
- Romans 1:28 (NLT) And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God or consider Him worth knowing [as their Creator], God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do things which are improper and repulsive, 29 until they were filled (permeated, saturated) with every kind of unrighteousness, wickedness, greed, evil; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, malice and mean-spiritedness.
- But His LOVE does not have a limit – Like a parent – love vs consequences
- Hence the Bible says in Isaiah 1:18 (AMP) – “Come now, and let us reason together,”
Says the Lord.
“[a]Though your sins are like scarlet,
They shall be as white as snow;
Though they are red like crimson,
They shall be like wool.
- 3. But Noah
- vs 7 And the Lord said, “I will wipe this human race I have created from the face of the earth. Yes, and I will destroy every living thing—all the people, the large animals, the small animals that scurry along the ground, and even the birds of the sky. I am sorry I ever made them.” 8 But Noah found favor with the Lord.
- But there is this man – a unique man – a man that does not choose to go with what everyone else is doing- separated/righteous man
- A man like Elijah
- A man like Daniel
- A man like Abraham
- One that say’s – that even though every man on the face of the earth has chosen wickedness and has continuously finds new ways to sin – having every imagination/intent and thoughts of evil – I Noah will not compromise!!
- This man gives me so much hope – that I can still win in a war that seems to be already lost
- We have seen it again and again– Sin has looked like it’s winning only for us to find new mercies every morning
- We have felt overwhelmed by the presence of the enemy only to have our eyes open to see the angels surrounding us with Chariots of fire
- God said – I will destroy everything – But Noah found favor and grace in the eyes of God
- Can God say – I am done with mankind/FVC/Auburn/America/World But ——put your name there — has found favor and grace in my eyes?
- How you treat sin matters:
- As a companion, new way of thinking, desire, relabel it
- Jazabel – free from her
- Proverbs 7 (NLT) – Warning from the immoral woman/sin
- Your decision doesn’t just affect you
- All the animals, all the things on the earth were destroyed because of man’s choice
- Adam and Eve separated me and the rest of Man kind from God
- BUT:
- Noah saved the next generation
- Abraham saved Lot
- Jesus saved us all
- Today you get to choose what part you play in the world that has gone wrong!!
Proverbs 7 – New Living Translation
Another Warning about Immoral Women
7 Follow my advice, my son;
always treasure my commands.
2 Obey my commands and live!
Guard my instructions as you guard your own eyes.[a]
3 Tie them on your fingers as a reminder.
Write them deep within your heart.
4 Love wisdom like a sister;
make insight a beloved member of your family.
5 Let them protect you from an affair with an immoral woman,
from listening to the flattery of a promiscuous woman.
6 While I was at the window of my house,
looking through the curtain,
7 I saw some naive young men,
and one in particular who lacked common sense.
8 He was crossing the street near the house of an immoral woman,
strolling down the path by her house.
9 It was at twilight, in the evening,
as deep darkness fell.
10 The woman approached him,
seductively dressed and sly of heart.
11 She was the brash, rebellious type,
never content to stay at home.
12 She is often in the streets and markets,
soliciting at every corner.
13 She threw her arms around him and kissed him,
and with a brazen look she said,
14 “I’ve just made my peace offerings
and fulfilled my vows.
15 You’re the one I was looking for!
I came out to find you, and here you are!
16 My bed is spread with beautiful blankets,
with colored sheets of Egyptian linen.
17 I’ve perfumed my bed
with myrrh, aloes, and cinnamon.
18 Come, let’s drink our fill of love until morning.
Let’s enjoy each other’s caresses,
19 for my husband is not home.
He’s away on a long trip.
20 He has taken a wallet full of money with him
and won’t return until later this month.[b]”
21 So she seduced him with her pretty speech
and enticed him with her flattery.
22 He followed her at once,
like an ox going to the slaughter.
He was like a stag caught in a trap,[c]
23 awaiting the arrow that would pierce its heart.
He was like a bird flying into a snare,
little knowing it would cost him his life.
24 So listen to me, my sons,
and pay attention to my words.
25 Don’t let your hearts stray away toward her.
Don’t wander down her wayward path.
26 For she has been the ruin of many;
many men have been her victims.
27 Her house is the road to the grave.[d]
Her bedroom is the den of death
