Fortify Your Faith

Faith towards God Hebrew 6:2-3

• This morning all of you guys in some way or form you woke up and headed to the light switch and turned that on – then at some point you headed over to the water faucet of some kind and turned it on – unless you didn’t pay your water or electric bill, all these things worked – lights turned on or water came out.
• Congratulation, you exercised your faith – You had faith that when you flip that switch that power would come on 
• The google describes – regular faith as – complete trust or confidence in someone or something
• And  spiritual faith as – strong belief in the doctrines of a religion, based on spiritual conviction rather than proof.
• In today’s text Paul is speaking to the congregation and laying out some basic foundations 

• Hebrews 6:1-3 (Nkjv) Therefore, leaving the discussion of the elementary principles of Christ, let us go on to [a]perfection, not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God, 2 of the doctrine of baptisms, of laying on of hands, of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment. 3 And this [b]we will do if God permits.

• Paul is saying that we should mature from the elementary things (basic principles) – Let go to on to perfection (righteousness) 
• Last Sunday – Repentance – by Pastor Matt 
• And this week – Faith towards God 
• “Faith towards God” means having deep trust, commitment, and confident reliance on God, believing He exists and will fulfill His promises, even without seeing Him, leading to actions like obedience, love, and surrendering control of your life to His guidance. It’s more than just belief; it’s a relationship involving spiritual assurance and a life lived in alignment with God’s will. 
• The writer knows that we have faith in other things – The real question is – If your faith in the things of this world were put on a scale against your Faith in God, what would tip the scale?

• Hebrews 11:6 (NLT) – And it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that God exists and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him.

• Honestly, it’s impossible to have any kind of life without faith –Everything you do – requires a measure of faith – relationships, daily activities, driving, pulling money out of the ATM, swiping your card – Most people don’t trust bankers- yet your faith is evident every time you swipe your card at the store 
• Yet, when the Bible say – Have faith without wavering – We are like, that’s too much you are overreaching 
• Today, I want us to explore three things:
  • Gods’ faithfulness (He is faithful and is calling us to do the same) 
  • Your personal faithfulness (What is our response)
  • The reward of complete faith in God (WIFM – what’s in it for me?

Gods’ faithfulness 

• Deuteronomy 7:9 (AMP)- Therefore know [without any doubt] and understand that the Lord your God, He is God, the faithful God, who is keeping His covenant and His [steadfast] lovingkindness to a thousand generations with those who love Him and keep His commandments.

• Psalm 33:4 (NLT) – For the word of the Lord holds true, and we can trust everything he does

• I get it, it’s easy to quote God’s Word to prove that He is true – knowing very well that the inspiration of the writer came from God who is the Holy Spirit 
• Like when Moses writes about himself that “(Now Moses was very humble—more humble than any other person on earth.) – Numbers 12:3
• But folks, faithfulness is not counted mostly on what is said, but what is done – Action
• Today you are here because God has been faithful to you! (Period) 
• He gave you breath – life – Not that you earned it – Pastor Matt made it clear last week that we don’t deserve anything and it not by our power – It’s by His might that we are even here today!

• Job 12:10 (NLT) – For the life of every living thing is in his hand, and the breath of every human being.

• Examine your life, tell me what do you have that the Lord has not given you?

• 1 Corinthians 4:7 (NLT)….. What do you have that God hasn’t given you? And if everything you have is from God, why boast as though it were not a gift?

• Yes, I know, I know – I worked hard, I made smart decisions, I studied hard, I came from a good family, I am self-made 
• But who gave you, the mind you have? Who put you in this country – in the family you are in. You didn’t have a say – Yet in His wisdom and plan – He put all of us in different places, even allowing us to gather here
• I have always been good with Sciences and Math (the stuff that I actually use in life – not like Algebra and calculus) but when it came to Biology – Well..
• It’s interesting how two people can be from the same womb and have different gifting – This is because God is the giver of all and He is faithful to His word 
• God has not called us to faithfulness without demonstrating it first 
• God is so faithful – and in our human nature, it doesn’t make sense sometimes 
• He creates humans and puts them in charge of the Garden of Eden- Knowing very well that we will mess it up – kicked out – Gives them the whole world, all animals and plants -We mess up again and again 
• There was murder, lie, sexual corruption, greed – the list is long 
• He gives us chance after chance after chance – Human being continue to sin – and even after wiping the whole earth clean through the flood- Him all knowing – He gives us another chance – The rainbow – He bides himself with a covenant that He will remain faithful even when we are not 
• Folks, God is not saying – do what I say but don’t do what I do – He has demonstrated His love continuously 
• Like that is not enough, He allows His only Son to be at the mercy of us evil people who have failed time and time again- He allows humans to murder His own Son – Hoping that we will see this sacrifice and turn to Him 

• Romans 5:8 (AMP) But God clearly shows and proves His own love for us, by the fact that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

• This is the Faithfulness of God! 

• Spurgeon says: Our unfaithfulness cannot make Him unfaithful. He is faithful still.”

• This is an echo to 2 Timothy 2:13 (Nlt) – If we are unfaithful, he remains faithful, for He cannot deny who He is. 

• Have God been faithful to you? Are you a good reciprocator? God is only calling you to do what he has modeled to us – He is faithful by WORD and DEED – Can we please do the same?

• Psalms 86:15 (NLT) But you, O Lord, are a God of compassion and mercy, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love and faithfulness.

Your personal faithfulness 

• In 2026 we have to be careful when we speak of anything that is “your” or “Our’- we have redefined words to fit our liking, comfort, sins, acceptance 
• Definition: Personal faithfulness is the steadfast commitment to being trustworthy, loyal, and consistent in actions, regardless of circumstances or feelings
• When I speak of your personal faith – I am not talking about what you have frankenstined together to fit your liking – I am speaking about the Faith in God according to the guardrails and regulations set by God -Author and finisher of everything 

• Habakkuk 2:4 – “Look at the proud! They trust in themselves, and their lives are crooked. But the righteous will live by their faithfulness to God

• When our faith is built on trusting our abilities and our skills – the Bible call us Proud and as we know – Pride comes before a fall
• We all want to be known to be faithful to God – And praise God we have great examples in the Bible, people who went before us and were faithful 

• God is Faithful and there is a response required to His Faithfulness 

• Sometimes faith in God requires us to have: 

Wait and let God fight for you – Faith 

• I have never met anyone who like to wait – and if there was, that desire is failing faster than before 
• This walk of Faith requires – actually, demands waiting as a fruit of righteousness 
• The Bible has many examples of people that waited for the promises of God – And may I say that God is faithful to see His promises through 
• In Exodus, the Israelites have been rescued from 400 year of slavery – left Egypt being led in the wilderness by God
• Pharoah changes his mind and guns for them 
• He takes with him 600 of Egypt’s best chariots, along with the rest of the chariots of Egypt and pursues the Israelites 
• Here is the issue: The Israelites are now caught between the Red Sea on one side and the advancing Egyptians on the other 
• So, what do the Israelites do: 

• Exodus 14:10-12 (Nlt) As Pharaoh approached, the people of Israel looked up and panicked when they saw the Egyptians overtaking them. They cried out to the Lord, 11 and they said to Moses, “Why did you bring us out here to die in the wilderness? Weren’t there enough graves for us in Egypt? What have you done to us? Why did you make us leave Egypt? 12 Didn’t we tell you this would happen while we were still in Egypt? We said, ‘Leave us alone! Let us be slaves to the Egyptians. It’s better to be a slave in Egypt than a corpse in the wilderness!’”

• Man, this sounds familiar in our lives – we had a breakthrough that we have been praying for a long -long time. The answer comes but when you look ahead, you feel like it’s a partial answer or like you got from the frying pan to the fire! 

• Exodus 14:13–14 (NLT) But Moses told the people, “Don’t be afraid. Just stand still and watch the Lord rescue you today. The Egyptians you see today will never be seen again. 14 The Lord himself will fight for you. Just stay calm.”

• Stay calm -really? Do you see what I see – Its easy for us to remove the emotions out of this story because we have read the chapters ahead – we know about the victory, but when you are in it – Its real 
• Today it may be real that you are surrounded – No where to go … the Lord knows your current situation 
• But He is saying to you – I see the army coming after you (fast), yes, I have allowed it, nothing is out of my control 
• I the Lord will fight for you – Just stay calm!!
• Psalm 46:10 (NLT) – “Be still and know that I am God!- Be still and know that I am a Faithful God 
• His army outnumbers the armies fighting you – You need to have that “Wait and let the Lord fight for your faith!

Do something – Faith 

• Other times God requires to do something – To have that do something Faith 
• Most people are doer, give me a task and I will accomplish it, crush it, check the box #winning
• But how many of you know that, yes – God will send us to do familiar stuff which do require a measure of faith 
• However, most of the time – when God says do something- there is a cost to it and a test to strengthen your faith

• Proverbs 17:3(NLT) – Fire tests the purity of silver and gold, but the Lord tests the heart

• Psalm 26:2 (NLT) Put me on trial, Lord, and cross-examine me. Test my motives and my heart

• When you put your faith in God, it’s mean that you have signed up for testing automatically – and that will require you have Faith in God!
  • Walk around the wall of Jericho instead of fighting – Joshua 6 -Trained for battle, ready to fight, having God on your side – and He says- I need you to walk around the city for 7 days – looking like a fool- Not using your abilities but truly relying on God 
• Doing something means going against the norm 
  • In mark 5 -The Bible speaks about a woman who had an issue of blood 
  • For 12 years – alone and rejected 
  • According to the Leviticus law – She was unclean – anything she touched would be unclean, she couldn’t be in public at all 
  • She was excluded from worship 
• She hears about Jesus and she has a decision to make – I can continue in my situation until I die, or I can do something- A faith that does something 
• She has to conquer fear; she has to chance – She has to do something 
• And the Bible says that she pushed through the crowd – knowing very well that this could cause severe punishment if she is caught – Yet it was worth it 
• Her faith in God – If I could get close enough to Jesus!
• What is it that God is calling you to do? Who or what is stopping you from reaching Jesus? 
• The noise is loud – You are not good enough, you can’t amount to anything, its too late for you, just stay and die -noise

• Matthew 11:28-30 (NLT) 28 Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.”

• Some of you, the do something faith will require you to raise your hand when I call for people to give their lives to Christ or rededicate your life 

• The Bible says that when she touched Jesus’ edge of the garment (Simple- not complicated) – Power Came from Jesus 
• That same power is here to set you free from sin and death, depression and addictions

• Do something Faith! – cry out to Jesus – Jesus son of David have mercy on me! 

• This is what happened to Bartimaeus in Mark 10 
  • A blind man beggar – by the side of the road – he hears that Jesus is passing by 

• When Bartimaeus heard that Jesus of Nazareth was nearby, he began to shout, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” 48 “Be quiet!” many of the people yelled at him. But he only shouted louder, “Son of David, have mercy on me!” – Mark 10:47-48 (NLT)

• A do something faith will have opposition – Spiritual and physical 
• Jesus heard him and stopped and asked for him to be brought to him 

• Mark 10: 51 (NLT)“What do you want me to do for you?” Jesus asked.“My Rabbi,[a]” the blind man said, “I want to see!”52 And Jesus said to him, “Go, for your faith has healed you.” Instantly the man could see, and he followed Jesus down the road.

Continuous dependency on God Faith

• I think most of us can endure the wait and let God fight for us, or the do something faith for a period of time 
• What if the faith that God required is a continuous daily dependence on God? The faith that gives you enough for today
• God requires us to have a complete continuous dependency on Him kind of faith 
• In Exodus 16 – God is very clear – I will give you manna – But you should only take what is enough for today 

• Exodus 16:17–18 (NLT)- So the people of Israel did as they were told. Some gathered a lot, some only a little. 18 But when they measured it out,[a] everyone had just enough. Those who gathered a lot had nothing left over, and those who gathered only a little had enough. Each family had just what it needed

• However – they wanted security – and we all do

• Exodus 16:19–20 (NLT) Then Moses told them, “Do not keep any of it until morning.” 20 But some of them didn’t listen and kept some of it until morning. But by then it was full of maggots and had a terrible smell. Moses was very angry with them.

• This to me is the most challenging because it requires me to WAIT 
• For most part we are obedience to Gods initial instructions- but after we have been waiting for a long time – we become impatient 
• A.k.a – We forget the faithfulness of God and end up birthing Ismael
• We know the promise and we hold on to it, but our nature wants security – and that security comes with self-preservation that we quickly forget that He who promised is faithful 
• Sometimes God want to not just heal that situation, He want to walk with you through it 
• It makes sense to gather Manna for a week, easier process – but God wanted them to know He is their provision, protector and that He was there with them 
• When God asks us to have that daily dependency (weekly check vs savings) – He is saying, I am your reward- I am your source of every need 
• This is the same promise God gave to Abraham

• • Genesis 15:1 (NKJV)After these things the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision, saying, “Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, [a]your exceedingly great reward.”

• Family- God is not looking for a faith that says- I came, I heard and I checked the box – What’s next 
• He has demonstrated to us that He is Faithfulness over and over and over – Not a one time event – but a continuous faithfulness 
• He is just asking us the same 

• Psalm 46:1 (AMP) God is our refuge and strength, A very present and well-proved help in trouble.

The benefits of complete faith in God 

• Its very simple- You get Jesus!

• The Bible says that without Faith, no one can see God – Hebrews 11:6 (NLT)

• Without faith it is impossible to please him
• Life is spiritual – Faith gives us spiritual sight 
  • Ephesians 6:12 – For our struggle is not against flesh and blood [contending only with physical opponents], but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this [present] darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly (supernatural) places
  • When you have complete Faith in God, He fights battles that you can’t physically see or win 
• Activates God’s promises – Hebrews 3:19 (NLT)
  • Unbelieve causes them to not inherit the promise 

• God give us secrets – Daniel 2:22 (NLT)

• • God reveals deep and mysterious things

• Faith produces endurance – James 1:3 (NLT)

• • Testing allows you to grow 

• Faith leads to salvation and eternal life – Ephesians 2:8 (NLT)

• • When you believe, you are saved 

• Faith allows you to do the impossible – Matthew 17:20 (NLT)
  • Jesus says if we have faith as a mustard seed – “Nothing would be impossible”

• Faith In God, give you strength – Isaiah 40:31 (NLT)

• • When we trust the Lord, we find new strength 

• Faith in God, brings forth righteousness – Genesis 15:6 (NLT)
  • Because Abraham believed in God, He was counted righteous 

• Faith in God overcomes – 1 John 5:4 (NLT)

• • We are victorious through Our faith 

• Faith in God sets people free – Mark 10: 51 (NLT)
