- Title: A Faithful Builder Text: Hebrews 3:1–6
can you imagine if someone came over to your house every week for a free meal? They just show up, throw their feet up, eat up all your food, don’t help with the cleanup and leave? - How long would you put up with that before saying something? What if they lived there?
- Now imagine if that same attitude showed up in God’s house- people coming to be fed but never contributing to the family. That’s not what Jesus is building. He’s not building a restaurant for spectators; He’s building a house for sons and daughters who will build w him.
- Hebrews 3:6 But Christ as a Son over His own house, whose house we are if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm to the end.
- Christ is building His church, and every believer must decide if they’re a brick in the wall or just a guest in the room. Which one are you? Faithful or freeloader?
- We are his house if we are faithful to the house (v2)
- v2 who was faithful to Him who appointed Him, as Moses also was faithful in all His house.
- This Hebrews scripture is outlining that Jesus (as a man) was faithful to what God had asked him to build. A house. He says “consider the Apostle and High Priest of our confession, Christ Jesus,”
- Jesus was faithful to do what the Father asked him. Take on flesh, come and serve, and die
- He was building a house for his father. he was given a work to do and he was faithful to it.
- And when we build faithfully, we’re not building for a pastor or a program we’re building with Christ Himself, who still works through His people to raise a house for His Father’s glory
- Jn4:34 Jesus said to them, My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me, and to finish His work.
- Jesus or Moses was not above actual work. Their works built ‘the house’ for the Father.
- What does it mean to you
- To be able to build you must be converted. Not looking for agreement, need conversion
- 1 Peter 2:4–5 Coming to Him as to a living stone, rejected indeed by men, but chosen by God and precious, you also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.
- Being faithful to the house is coming to Jesus and being the stone that is being built up.
- You see yourself as a part of the building of the house and you’re faithful to it as CHRISTIAN
- If you’re a stone, you are an important stone and you don’t change or move. you’re rock solid.
- You see yourself as part of the body You see yourself as a member. You identify w the house
- Paul wrote that we’re one body with many members, built together into God’s house.
- You see yourself as part of the house Eph 2:19–22 – You are no longer strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God.
- Jesus and moses were faithful to be used by God to build something greater for God
- Church is not a spectator event. The Church does not need warm bodies that come and suck air
- Peter says we’re being built up as living stones: that’s what God is doing in us. Building.
- But Hebrews says Moses and Jesus were faithful in the house: that’s what we do with Him.
- You can’t separate the two. If God’s building you up, He’s also calling you to build something with Him. Stones that never get stacked don’t become a house
- If you only get built and never build, you’re not part of the house you’re a lonely stone . But if you’ll build and serve, you’ll see God use you to strengthen the house. There’s work to do!
- I bought a router for wood about 20 years ago. I’ve never used it. Takes up space. worthless!
- 2. We are his house if we are faithful to the builder (v3)
- V3For this One has been counted worthy of more glory than Moses, inasmuch as He who built the house has more honor than the house.
- Psalm 127:1 – Unless the Lord builds the house, they labor in vain who build it.
- We can build programs, personalities, and platforms, but if the Builder isn’t glorified, all we’ve built is scaffolding. Faithful builders care about the presence of the builder, not the polish
- We can Sing songs (many secular ones bring me to tears), give a good motivational talk (Tony robbins), do service projects, give it a name, make friends, give dues, learn codes and culture
- You could join any club or cause and get the same surface benefits without Christ. You don’t need to slap a Christian label on it to get the benefits of it. You can do all this without Christ.
- Frankly, you could have a bit more time, money and freedom than spending a fake Christian life.
- Because if its not for the builder, that’s what it is. Empty religion. It HAS to be for his Glory.
- This house isn’t about us. Its about Him and him alone. Moses: faithful, but Jesus was MORE.
- Colossians 3:17 – Whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus.
- For those of you who do serve and give, you have to do it in the name of Jesus. Has to be.
- He has to be the motivation and the impetus behind every action, deed and demonstration.
- Jesus is the Builder who didn’t use stone and wood He used His own body and blood to build a house for God. That’s why our service can’t be casual; it has to be sacred and sacrificial.
- Every energy and time. Every tithe and offering. Every praise and prayer is BY him an FOR HIM
- Many people miss this or forget this. Church becomes a chore and club not humility and house
- We don’t serve because we have to earn a seat in the house; we serve because we already belong to the Builder. Faithfulness flows out of gratitude, not guilt. What does it mean to you-
- Be faithful to the builder by living for his glory and building the house and not your recognition.
- You serve because you want to build the house. Its not because you feel guilty and an obligation. You see service as a means of the building of the house of God for GOD. FOR HIM
- Here’s the truth. Some of you have been attending a long time, and my prayer is that one day you stop attending and start belonging. You’ve been built and now its time to be used to build
- There’s a difference between being in the room feeding and being part of building the house.
- Years ago I was on a board for a kidney organization. Free food. Events. People. I have 2 kidneys.
- Eventually quit even tho free food/friends.. cost me No $ just DIDN’T CARE abt kidneys
- Why would i regularly or infrequently attend something I’m not committed to? Why? pointless
- 1 Corinthians 4:2 Moreover it is required in stewards that one be found faithful.
- We must be faithful to the builder because he has been faithful to us. We must be faithful.
- 1 Cor 3:10–11 READ But let each one take heed how he builds on it.
- Moses didn’t build a house. God built a house through Moses bc moses loved God.
- God always builds through faithful people and we must be faithful to the task.
- Wife gone for 10 days- I did all the things. Not to marry her, but because I LOVE HER
That’s how it should be with Jesus. We don’t build to earn His love; we build because we already have it. Faithful builders don’t serve for applause they serve out of affection for the Builder
- We are his house if we are faithful to the process (v4)
- Every house takes time to build. God’s house is no different.
- Foundation:long time. Framing: messy, anything happening? that’s how every house is built.
- v4 For every house is built by someone, but He who built all things is God.
- Growth isn’t just numbers it’s who we become in Christ as we are built into him as a house
- But here’s what I do know- we wouldn’t have grown if we weren’t faithful to the process.
- Phil 1:6 – He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ.
- That’s what God said to the Philippian church and he says that to every church in truth
- But we must be faithful to the process. Every believer wants progress, but few want process.
- God always works through process from seed to fruit, from sinner to saint, from chaos to completion. Whats the process?
- We share the Gospel. To people we know outside the church or bring them to church
- They Get saved. They make a decision to get on the ark and start living for Jesus
- They get discipled and grow. This is a long process, but its what it takes. They grow in time
- We come together. There’s this supernatural dynamic when we come together and grow
- You cant grow alone- God does something miraculous when we stay with the process.
- The miracle isn’t just what God builds around you it’s what He builds in you while you stay. He’s shaping your character while He’s building His church around you and IN YOU.
- And the One shaping you is the same Christ who patiently shaped His disciples He knows the process, He’s walked it, and He’ll see you through it.
- Here’s what I’ve seen- Theres always a point in the growth curve where you either quit or stay
- The reality of growth and the demands of it is daunting, so they move on to something else.
- Galatians 6:9 says, And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heartJohn 15:2 Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit.
- I get it. The Church grows slowly, through seasons of pruning, testing, and refinement.
- Sometimes God prunes the whole by removal and sometimes you stay in the process and YOU get pruned. Its painful but its necessary process for growth. But stay in the process.
- When a Gardener prunes, He isn’t punishing He’s positioning. He sees the bigger plan.
- Pruning feels like loss, but it’s actually preparation for more fruit that’s what it takes!
- Being faithful to the process means staying planted, staying patient, and trusting that God is doing something you cannot yet see. God builds through long obedience in the same direction.
- Don’t confuse stillness with stagnation sometimes the deepest growth happens underground
- What does it mean to you Be faithful to the process. Don’t give up on what God is doing in you here. Commit long term Its uncomfortable at times, but growth is usually really uncomfortable.
- Endurance- Hebrews 10:36 For you have need of endurance, so that after you have done the will of God, you may receive the promise.
- If you don’t have endurance, you aren’t going to get the promise. Just stay the course
- Faithfulness to the process doesn’t mean every season feels fruitful. It means you keep showing up when it’s not. Endurance: keep showing up regardless of how you feel. Stick with it.
- If you’ve never been weary, I’m not sure you’re being faithful to the process
- But weariness isn’t an indication of need of quitting, it a guidepost on the way to victory.
- Weariness is often the sign you’re near a breakthrough. The enemy wants you to interpret exhaustion as failure but God calls it endurance training.
- Here’s why- Eccl 3:1 To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven.
- Every season isn’t beautiful. Every part of every season isn’t great. Winter is cold, Spring is windy. Summer is hot. Fall is inconsistent. But that’s the reality of those seasons.
- Embrace the season and trust that God knows what he is doing through the process.
- Don’t despise the season you’re in. God doesn’t waste waiting. Every delay is part of His divine design. If you commit to a few years, join the process, you will grow. You just will.
- Not as spectator. As a committed faithful serving giving member. You’ll grow. I promise.
- Because here’s the truth- you can build a shack quickly but a sanctuary takes a long time.
- We are his house if we are faithful to the end (v6)
- Faithfulness is proven over time. The mark of a true builder is endurance.
- v6 but Christ as a Son over His own house, whose house we are if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm to the end.
- Christ is over his house, but the bible litmus test is this– we must hold fast the confidence.
- the confidence? Our hope of redemption and rescue. That the house is built and rescued.
- We keep our eyes on the future glory of our redemption. Its at the forefront of our minds
- The house He’s building here is just the training ground for the home He’s preparing there. Every act of faithfulness today is you being a stone built into Gods house for eternity
- the same Jesus who began this work will finish it- he never quit on His Father won’t quit on you.
- Matthew 24:13 He who endures to the end shall be saved.
- Hebrews echoes this theme- hold fast. Don’t drift. Hold on.
- world celebrates quick results; God crowns quiet endurance. Don’t trade eternal reward for temporary relief. Quitting is easy. Endurance is hard. Road v Treadmill- can quit anytime
- Here’s what I think would upend the church. Not counting salvations but finishes.
- We count salvations very easily. Raise a hand. Go to church for a while. But what if we stopped?
- But how many do we put in the grave? How many do we rejoice that finish well? Who ends?
- 2 Timothy 4:7–8 – I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.
- when I preach, prod and poke its because I want you to finish well
- I’m not after short-term decisions; I’m after lifelong disciples. I don’t want a church full of sparks I want steady flames that burn to the end. I don’t want to just count baptisms and hands raised
- You need to get that in your spirit. Your pastor loves you and wants you to finish well
- I’ve seen what lackluster lukeward lacsadaisical preaching produces and it aint legacy
- But faithfulness can’t just be in the pulpit it has to live in the pews. Don’t say “this is your job” If we’re going to finish well as a church, we all have to carry the same grit to the end.
- be faithful to death Rev 2:10 Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life.
- That means no matter what it costs, we do it it and walk in it. We treat it life and death
- We continue Col 1:22–23 If indeed you continue in the faith, grounded and steadfast, and are not moved away from the hope of the gospel which you heard.
- We stay in Christ, stay in the word, continue and allow him to be a faithful builder.
- A faithful builder doesn’t quit mid-project. You finish what you start and the faithful keep building. And one day, when the Builder Himself returns, He’ll find us still being stones, still standing firm, still building His house. Commit today to the house. Serve, Give, attend, Grow
