Exodus 5:22-6:13 Now You Shall See
- People complain. Man do they complain. Its almost like an art form. People gain friends from it. People get together to do it. I complain! Politicians, prices, people, myself. Its easy to gripe
- Through my life- I’ve complained to God as well- Why haven’t you? When Will you? Why Didn’t you? A complaint comes from a few different areas- but often it comes from Jealously, envy, discontentment. As Christians, it usually comes directly from faithless living. Forgetting.
- Moses has this same heart. God has spoken, Moses believed, and God hasn’t moved-when
The Complaint: When God when, Why God why?
- READ Ex- 5:22-23- Why have you? Why is it? neither have You delivered Your people at all!
- God why did you send me? Why the Trouble? And WHY NO DELIVERANCE?
- I get it- timelines can get tricky- especially if you’re waiting on deliverance.
- We read this stuff fast, but how many days passed? How many more beatings? Pain, misery
- Its like when someone you know is going through it- doesn’t seem bad- unless you’re them.
- There’s going to be even more complaining in exodus from the Israelites.
- Psalm 106:25 But complained in their tents, and did not heed the voice of the LORD.”
- But the truth is that we’re not supposed to be complainers. We’re just not. Its not for us
- Philippians 2:14 Do all things without complaining and disputing,
- 1 Corinthians 10:10 Nor complain, as some of them also complained, and were destroyed
- The biggest problem with complaining is that when we complain, its really against God
- Exodus 16:8 for the LORD hears your complaints which you make against Him. And what are we? Your complaints are not against us but against the LORD
- We complain about his plan, timing, means, methods, distributions, restrictions, decisions, etc
- Bless God he doesn’t strike us dead when we do! They’d stop immediately for sure.
But God has The Answer- Now you shall See
- God is such a gentleman. He doesn’t strike Moses dead. He doesn’t take him out
- God is gracious and loving. He knows who we are and what we’re doing.
- Nothing comes as surprise to him- Isaiah 41:10 Fear not, for I am with you
- Yet, God comes back to Moses’ complaining with an assurance “now you will see”
- I’m not that holy- I hear that in a “oh you about to see what I can do” voice.
- Exodus 6:1 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Now you shall see what I will do to Pharaoh”
- God’s timing is perfect. He’s always working out HIS plan. HIS purposes. We don’t know why or how, sometimes even after time has passed, we don’t know it all.
- Why did he take so long with Israel? What was he teaching them, and US (sorry they had to go through it for us to get the lesson and the blessing”
- Maybe so we can learn to live out- Psalm 23:1 The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want
- God always shows up. He always fixes it. It always takes longer than we expect and it seems to never turn out the way we planned or expected it- but he always does it. “see what I will do”
- Met with a Pastor many years ago who’s wife had committed suicide- he says-
- Romans 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God
- Appropriate the promises of God! Build some patience and endurance into your spiritual life.
- Be able to trust God through the waiting- the wondering- the figuring it out. Don’t give up!
- For some reason people have complete spiritual clarity about what he has DONE-AFTERWARDS
- Isaiah 43:2 When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, nor shall the flame scorch you.
- Love it! He’ll be with you friend! Some of you are right on the edge of giving up- and I’m telling you right now- DON’T QUIT ON GOD- You’ve said your complaints, now see what he will do-
- Friends at Ps Jn Church– 1 mo son died. Sad. But God will work it out in time. He will! I know it!
Why? Because of who he is- I am the Lord.
- Exodus 6:3 is a significant verse regarding the name of God.
- “I appeared to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, as God Almighty (El Shaddai), but by my name the LORD (Yahweh) I did not make myself known to them.”
- God is revealing to Moses that while He had appeared to the patriarchs (Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob) as El Shaddai (God Almighty), they did not know Him by the name Yahweh.
- God is making a new revelation of His name, Yahweh, to Moses and the Israelites
- This marks a turning point in God’s relationship with His chosen people, He discloses His personal name and establishes a covenant with them using this name. (there has always been pwr in name)
- “Yahweh” is tied to God’s presence, promises, and the deliverance of the Israelites
- Yahweh (YHWH): This is the most sacred and personal name of God in the Hebrew Bible. It is often referred to as the Tetragrammaton, a four-letter word (YHWH) with no vowels.
- it is often replaced with Adonai (meaning “Lord”) in oral reading.
- Adonai: “Lord” or “Master.” Adonai is used to address God in prayer and worship.
- Elohim: Elohim is a plural form of Eloah (meaning “God”) and is often used to emphasize God’s power and majesty.
- El Shaddai: “God Almighty” or “God of the Mountains.” It emphasizes God’s strength, power, and provision. El Shaddai is frequently used in the context of God’s promises and blessings.
- El Elyon: This name means “God Most High” and highlights God’s supremacy and sovereignty over all. It is associated with the idea that God is the ruler over the entire universe.
- Jehovah (or Yahveh): While the name Yahweh is the most accurate representation of the Tetragrammaton, some English translations of the Bible use “Jehovah” as a rendition of the divine name by inserting vowels (e.g., “Jehovah” combines the consonants YHWH with vowels from Adonai).
- Yah (Yahh): This is a shortened form of Yahweh and is often used in poetic and worshipful contexts. It is found in expressions like “Hallelujah,” which means “Praise Yah.”
- Jehovah-Jireh: “The LORD Will Provide” Ge 22:14 Jehovah-Rapha: “The LORD Who Heals” Ex 5:26 Jehovah-Nissi: “The LORD Is My Banner” Ex 17:15 the source of victory. - BUT WHY? Because of What I have heard v5
- When you pray, ask and seek the Lord and you don’t see anything happen- it gnaws at you. The Devil uses it against you and torments you the same way Jesus and Adam were- “did God really say” and “doesn’t the word say”. It’s only to discourage you. To dishearten you. Set you back.
- Here me this morning- DO NOT GIVE UP. Don’t quit on GOD. Keep praying and believing!
