DR SCHOLL’S running insoles have changed a bit. I have used these for years and they are great for the price, by the way; don’t buy the expensive ones. I have tried most of them. However, the last two years or so my running shoes started squeaking really bad. In fact, it was a little embarrassing if I’m being honest. I am not sneaking up on anyone with these things! The newer inserts have a plastic/rubber part on the arch of the insole. Most insoles are all rubber/cloth. These newer ones were rubbing/squeaking right on my arch area.
So, I googled how to get rid of the squeaking from insoles. A few remedies popped up. I tried rubbing coconut oil underneath the inserts. This did not work. Then I tried putting talcum powder underneath them. This still did not work. Thinking I would never stop the squeaking, I googled how to stop the squeaking noises from Dr. Scholl’s inserts. Bingo! I needed specific instructions: to stop the squeaking from Dr. Scholl’s inserts, use duct tape. Yes! Victory at last!
God gives specific instructions. There are things that He tells me to do, that are not for you or anyone else. There’s a direction I’m supposed to go that not everyone can follow. I have specific orders of what to do, how to do it, and what time I’m supposed to do it in. I also have orders of what not to, where to not go and who to not have fellowship with. He gives me specific instructions for my life. And He gives you the same. God’s specific instructions have a purpose behind them. It is not for us to know, just for us to follow. We must learn not to deviate from them because it can lead to dire circumstances. Moses comes to mind. The consequences of disobeying can be more than we are willing to bear.
“I [the Lord] will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with My eye upon you.” Psalm 32:8
I am not excusing sin, mind you. There are general orders and commands that all God’s people are commanded to obey. He doesn’t make exceptions because you don’t like His orders. We don’t get to deviate from things like marriage between one man and one woman til death do you part, do not lie, do not steal, do not murder, do not covet, and so on. These apply to us all. However, Ezekiel is commanded to begin his ministry immediately by performing a series of sign-acts, warning of the coming of judgment upon Jerusalem and Judah. Many of the prophets are instructed to carry out dramatic action to accompany their messages, ranging from simple sermon illustrations to complex acted-out parables. We don’t all have to lie on our left side for 390 days. Someone should shout a “Hallelujah!”
We are in a time and season of such dark deception that the very elect can be deceived if we are not careful to obey all His commands, specifically the specific commands. He might tell you to sell all and move to a place you don’t want to go. Do it. He might have you take in someone to live with you that you don’t necessarily want to have with you. Do it. He might tell you to invest in stock, go to the left instead of the right, stay in when you want to go out, leave quickly when you want to stay.
God gives detailed instructions and if you are not listening and quick to obey, you will miss what He is doing. You might miss an opened door because your reaction time was too slow. Or you might go straight into danger when He was trying to avert you. Like my inserts, we each need specific instructions. And why not? He’s an up close and personal God. He knows all about me. He knows my mind and my heart. He knows what’s best for me and He knows what will hurt me, way more than I can discern for myself. He made me. I want to know the Maker’s instructions and I think this proves that duct tape can solve just about anything.
“Keep me from the way of deceit and graciously give me Your instruction. I have chosen the way of truth; I have set Your ordinances before me. I cling to Your decrees; Lord, do not put me to shame. I pursue (quickly run after) the way of Your commands, for You broaden my understanding.” Psalms 119:29-32 HCSB
