WHAT FORBIDS THEE? I hear most things in the KJV. It’s the Bible that was put in my hands when I was born again. This is an older story. We were hanging out in the pool the other day and Matt says, “the pool needs to be vacuumed”. And I replied, “there is the vacuum. What forbids thee?” It’s a common saying around our house, “here is a dishwasher, what forbids thee from washing the dishes?” Its from the book of Acts. Philip is ministering to a man he sees along his travels, while Phillip is ministering to him the Word of God the man spots a pool of water and longs to be baptized,
“Now as they went down the road, they came to some water. And the eunuch said, “See, here is water. What hinders me from being baptize?” Acts 8:36
WHEN YOU TRULY WANT SOMETHING, YOU WILL MAKE A WAY TO GET IT. I have been on this earth for 50 years now and every single person I have ever known will find a way to get what they want, or die trying. We all have the same 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. But somehow, the things of God seem to get lost in the world of “I can’t”.
I can’t do that today, I have *this* going on. Oh sorry, I can’t serve, I can’t help, I can’t go to church, I can’t pray, I can’t tithe, I can’t read my Bible and on and on. I’m going to be honest with you, most of the time when you say “I can’t” what you are really saying is, “I won’t”. You won’t make a way for that to happen because something else is more important to you, or plainly you just do not want to.
Show me your bank account and your calendar and I will show you what’s important to you.
If you are honest with yourself, you know this to be true. Are there things you can’t do? Of course, you cannot fly without some sort of flying equipment. But let’s be honest, when you say “I can’t” to something you are really saying “I won’t”. Heart check time. Are your things, your plans, your desires and what you want to do more important to you than the things of God?
Do you ask others for money to support something “of God”, but then you use your own money to do what you want to do? Me personally, unless a person is not saved; I don’t give money to those who are not committed to a local church and giving and tithing. I don’t support rogue Christians. Do you pick and choose which Scriptures you want to obey and which you do not have to obey because it’s not convenient? That’s the same as my kids cleaning the room I already cleaned when I told them to scrub the toilets. “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” Matthew 6:33
