UNTHANKFUL. ADJECTIVE. 1. Not showing or feeling gratitude: thankless, unappreciative, ungrateful. Synonyms include: rude, careless, thoughtless, self-centered. It’s a mark of the last days person,
“For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, UNTHANKFUL, unholy” 2 Timothy 3:2
We also know that Paul is talking about those who profess to be Christians in all appearance and words, but lack God’s redeeming power to overcome their flesh. (v.5) I’m dumbfounded at the amount of rudeness I see in people, but especially those claiming Christ. These claim their own righteousness and selflessness, while accusing you of wrongdoing. This is how you spot a fake: those who constantly accuse others.
When you are always the victim and never the villain, your mind has not been renewed and it just might be you are not truly converted. There’s an epidemic in our society of accusing everyone else of wrongdoing and not taking responsibility for their own actions. Note to the crowd: you cannot help someone who won’t take responsibility for their actions or behavior.
Have you forgotten what’s been done for you? It was your sin that crucified Jesus. You sure liked that grace the first time you received it. How can you still be ungrateful? How can you accuse others and not just be thankful? There were two thieves on the opposite sides being crucified along side our Lord. One was humble and contrite and one mocked.
“Then one of the criminals who were hanged blasphemed Him, saying, “If You are the Christ, save Yourself and us.” But the other, answering, rebuked him, saying, “Do you not even fear God, seeing you are under the same condemnation? And we indeed justly, for we receive the due reward of our deeds; but this Man has done nothing wrong.” Then he said to Jesus, “Lord, remember me when You come into Your kingdom.”” Luke 23:39-42
When you are ungrateful and condemn another, you carry the same spirit of the mocking criminal. Have you forgotten how many times you’ve been fed by others? How many times the church has helped with your marriage? Provided ministry? Taught your children? Gave you a friend? Bought you food? Paid your rent? Taught you the Word of God?
Church is a Body of believers; if one has helped then the church has done it for you. Are you a spiritual fornicator? You only want the benefits of the Body without actually being married? And do not think you are in Christ, who is the head of the church when you are not submitted and are disconnected from the Body. Christ is not a severed head. God did not send you out to wander rebelliously. Your thinking has been corrupted. Unthankfulness is a poison. Rudeness is prevalent in society, but these should not even touch the Church. Humble yourself quickly! God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble. Always be thankful, this is the will of God.
“Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” I Thessalonians 5:16-18
