EITHER SIN OR GOD must die in a man. “An unjust man is an abomination to the righteous, and he who is upright in the way is an abomination to the wicked.” Proverbs 29:27
These words point out not only the antagonism between the doers of good and evil, but the instinctive antipathy which the one feels toward the other. It’s almost as if the Spirit speaks,
“Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership have right living and right standing with God with iniquity and lawlessness? Or how can light have fellowship with darkness?” 2 Corinthians 6:14
But most don’t want the Word of God; they are led by their feelings and emotionally driven. People have let compassion become complacency and instead of rebuking and correcting, they fall into acceptance. Many within the church are falsely telling you, “Just love!” But this isn’t even God’s love, but a fleshly love that is devoid of truth. This acceptance of sin slowly sears your heart and conscience.
I have seen this in great measure of parents with their children. Instead of correction and training, there’s a silent assent to their child’s sinfulness. It begins with small things that they let slide, but eventually those “small things” become huge gaping holes. Because you didn’t correct when you first saw the ship turning, now they are on the Titanic headed straight for an iceberg. I don’t understand parents who just let their kids wear whatever they want, go places they shouldn’t go and hang out with people they shouldn’t be hanging out with. I’ve heard mom’s say, “they will hate me!” So you would rather have a false relationship with your child and set them on a path to destruction then discipline them with truth and have them mad at you for a season?
The above Proverb avers there is a holy nature in the godly man that instinctively repels those who operate in wickedness and the adverse is also true. Yet many cannot even discern good from evil because they have a seared conscience and refuse to crucify the sinful flesh. Oswald Chambers said, “Sin is a blatant mutiny against God, and either sin or God must die in my life.” You will either be ruled by your sinful nature or by the power of the Spirit. These are your only two options. This idea of “accepting Jesus” with no change in your nature is a lie. The works of the flesh are evident as well as the fruit of the Spirit and there is a great conflict between the two- Galatians 5:16-26. Go back to the above Proverb. Which do you attract?
I wish more people would accept as true God’s holy Word, “Bad company corrupts good morals”. I have seen this verse come true more times than I can count. Especially among Christians who claim to be Christian, but are rebellious and fleshly. How did they fall away? Bad company. How did they end up in jail? Bad company. How on earth did they go back to their slop? Bad company. Why did they take that path? Bad company. Why did they do that? Bad company. Why do they think that way? Bad company. How did that even happen? Bad company.
If you would just take seriously God’s Word. Light and dark cannot have fellowship. Righteousness and wickedness cannot have communion. Who you keep company with will determine whether or not you stay on the narrow path or you go the wide path to destruction. Why is this so? Because we are sheep prone to wander. There’s a battle raging within us- the Spirit is willing but the flesh is weak. If you keep bad company, eventually the fleshly nature will gain a foothold. He knows our weaknesses. Therefore He tells us to keep company with those traveling our same path. Keep company with those who will sharpen and hone you.
Keep company with a brother who will tell you the truth and help keep your vision straight. This concept of separation from evil and fleshly people is spoken of throughout Scripture. There are multiple examples of rebellious people causing others to sin and division among the brethren. You would do well to take God’s Word seriously. And parents- kept a firm handle on who your children are hanging out with. The minute you begin to see them acting like, dressing like, talking like a worldly “friend”; you better turn that ship around. Iceberg right ahead!
