Show Me the Change Exodus 34:29–35 Series: Face to Face (Week 6)
- We’re living in a world obsessed with looking different — filters, edits, glow-ups, Photoshop, AI-generated profile pics. Lots of people’s profile pic looks nothing like them-
- Everybody wants to look transformed… but very few actually want to be transformed. You can change your appearance in 10 seconds on your phone — but real transformation? That takes time. Presence. Encounter. Genuine time in God’s presence always produces change — visible, undeniable, and attractive to others. It gives spiritual weight, not for influence’s sake, but because God’s glory marks His people.
- We all want a genuine relationship with God. We want to be changed by him and reflect him.
- If we thought we were OK without the Lord we wouldn’t even make it a priority.
- There’s numerous scriptures that outline what a changed life in the Lord looks like
- We should use these as a litmus test- a way to determine where we’re at.
- Bless God, we don’t have to guess, there’s a plumb line a way to actually measure
- Everything spiritual is practical as well. Its not all just ethereal. Its nuts and bolts.
- We should be being transformed:
- 2 Cor 3:18 But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.
- When you came to Christ, or are walking with Christ, there should be something different
- People who interact and have submitted to the Lord have changed countenance and actions
- If you’re the same after your coming to Christ, that’s a concern. SOMETHING should change
- We Should think differently:
- Colossians 3:10 …and have put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him.
- Your old man should be dead and the new man should be alive- you should have more knowledge of God and how to walk with him.
- Some parts of your beliefs should be contrary to your previous beliefs. Aligned with God’s ways
- We should walk differently:
- 1 John 2:6 He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked.
- Does your daily life get redirected and you do Christian things? Prayer, worship, truth etc?
- Someone in your life should notice you’re walking a bit different- not perfectly- different.
- Ephesians 4:22–24 …put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man… and be renewed in the spirit of your mind… and put on the new man…
- We Should let God do it
- Philippians 2:13–15 For it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure… that you may become blameless and harmless… among whom you shine as lights in the world.
- It’s a very difficult balance to understand how we walk with God, but allow him to do it.
- We can’t change ourselves. Our efforts fall short. We can’t try hard enough to change
- Its only within his presence that we are fundamentally changed. Much of it is instantaneous, but much of it is gradual over time.
How do we get the change?
- 1 You Can’t Fake God’s Presence
This Christian life aint no joke. It is the most important part of your life. - I hit on this a bit, almost weekly because I’m trying to get us all across the line, we must be real
- We filter through a lot of visitors a people here. The demand is clear- come be real be changed.
- And you can’t fake that. You just cant. You can try to act Christian, but it doesn’t work.
- People who have been with God are just a different breed of humans.
- Exodus 34:29 – Now it was so, when Moses came down from Mount Sinai… that Moses did not know that the skin of his face shone while he talked with Him.
- Moses didn’t even realize he had changed — transformation wasn’t forced, it was a byproduct of God’s presence.
- Moses didn’t come down and post a facebook status or a selfie “just spent time w God”
- It says “he didn’t know”
- The shining face is symbolic of spiritual radiance — a life touched by the divine.
- The word “shone” in Hebrew is qāran — a unique word only used here in this way.
- It comes from the root qeren, meaning “horn,” implying projected rays or beams of light.
- Whats interesting is that Moses wrote Exodus and he wasn’t very clear- but this effect of being with God was a shooting extrusion- visible and different (vulgate-horns-michelangeo)
- Moses’ face didn’t just glow — it radiated with power and presence. Everyone could see it
- The glory was undeniable, outward, and spiritually authoritative — not for show, but as a result of being with God. This wasn’t a surface shine. It was the visible evidence of a deep encounter.
- People can tell when you’ve been with God — no need to announce it. (stinky run)
- When you’ve been in the presence of God- everyone else will see it and recognize it.
- Ac 4:13 when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were uneducated and untrained men, they marveled. they realized that they had been with Jesus.
- The Boldness pointed to the transformation- They noticed it and was REAL
- 2 Corinthians 3:7–8 7 But if the ministry of death, written and engraved on stones, was glorious, so that the children of Israel could not look steadily at the face of Moses because of the glory of his countenance, which glory was passing away, 8 how will the ministry of the Spirit not be more glorious?
- Paul says- the glory of Moses was passing away- it was temporary. But for Us we have the spirit of the Living God within US, and it will be MUCH MORE GLORIOUS
- Are people noticing something different about your life? Has God’s presence left a visible mark?
- Sometimes Your mind can condemn you in a way that you wouldn’t expect. Hard to perceive
- I’ll be working on Sermon- and have to ask my wife- Do you see this in my life? I don’t see it. I only see my flaws, mistakes and shortcomings. But apparently God has done something according to my wife. I opened the door, she can say whatever she wants-
- Bless God, I’m not a complete wretch. My wife says I’m doing OK. I don’t want the fake
- You shouldn’t want the fake! Ask someone if they can see it on you! Go spend time with God
- 2. You Can’t Hide God’s Glory
Once you’ve experienced God, you can’t hide it. Its impossible. Everyone sees it. - Exodus 34:30–32 – They were afraid to come near him… then all the children of Israel came near…
- Do you remember when you Got saved and the people around you saw it?
- Accused of many things- faking it, holier than thou, a ‘phase’ etc. full on attacks.
- Some are drawn to the glory, others are initially afraid — because God’s presence convicts as much as it attracts. But when I got saved, and even now, you can see it on a person.
- The people who are steeped in sin, who actually have a sense of God- straighten up.
- What happened- Moses’ shining face led others to listen and obey — spiritual authority was a natural outcome, not a goal.
- 32 Afterward all the children of Israel came near, and he gave them as commandments all that the Lord had spoken with him on Mount Sinai.
- Real presence produces both holiness and influence — not self-made, but God-given.
- The presence of God upon Moses gave him spiritual authority. It proved He was with God.
- We can’t hide who we are and who we have been with! It rubs off on us!
- Probably told this before- But get your kids around bad kids and it rubs off on them.
- The come home with an attitude that wasn’t there before and you gotta get it off them
- Goes the other way- goodness and mercy follow you all the days of your life
- Matthew 5:14 “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. 16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.
- We’re supposed to shine our light into this world- Its of God and its his light but we shine it.
- And not everyone is going to like it because it comes with some spiritual authority
- John 3:19 And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.
- You ever changed something about your diet or fitness? Breakfast meeting- everyone wanted me to eat. When something changes about you, everyone wants you to be like them.
- But we can’t let that change who we are and how we live our light comes from God and its intended to shine in a dark world and condemn it of its darkness.
- We have a mission on this earth to bring forth the truth of Gods word and spread it
- Eph 5:11 And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them. 13 But all things that are exposed are made manifest by the light, for whatever makes manifest is light
People will either be drawn to the light or uncomfortable in it — but they will respond. Does your life reflect something holy enough to convict or attract? Go spend time with God.
- 3: You Can’t Stay the Same
Exodus 34:33–35 – …Moses put the veil on his face again, until he went in to speak with Him. - Moses veiled the fading glory — but in Christ, we no longer veil it.
- The goal isn’t to hide the change, but to carry it into the world. We become world changers
- Change is sustained through ongoing encounters — Moses had to keep going back in.
- 2 cor 3:12 Therefore, since we have such hope, we use great boldness of speech— 13 unlike Moses, who put a veil over his face so that the children of Israel could not look steadily at the end of what was passing away.
- When You experience the glory of the Lord on your life- it changes everything about you
- Your life is changed, your mind is changed, your whole countenance is changed.
- Are you staying in his presence? Is it real? Do you have a light you’re sharing with the world?
- Rom 12:2 do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind…Are you more like the world? Or do you have the Glow? Has your mind been renewed?
- Galatians 2:20 I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me…
- Like Kulibaba said- Is your flesh on the cross begging you to take him down and live?
- Colossians 3:2 Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.
- Is your mind consumed with the things of this world? There’s lots to focus on!
- Don’t be consumed with the things of this world- there’s not comfort in them- get in the glory
- James 1:22 But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.
- Have you stayed away from God’s word so you don’t have to live it? Or are you doing it
- Galatians 5:16 Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.
- Get back to the spirit- get face to face with God– get in his presence and watch flesh fall.
- If your change is fading, it might be time to get back into His presence.
- Are you regularly encountering God, or are you living off an old experience?
How to Experience Life-Changing Presence:
- Repentance – Remove what separates you- daily to God- REMOVE IT
- Pursuit – Seek Him intentionally- Bible, Prayer, Church, Worship, Fellowship
- Worship – Enter His presence with reverence- I WORSHIP-don’t just watch.
- Stillness – Make space to listen- get off the screens- be still before the Lord.
- Obedience – Apply what He shows you- what God is it if we have no deeds?
- If people or YOU can’t see the change, don’t fake it — go get it. Get alone with God. Get real. Stay long enough that your life starts to shine. Because when you’ve truly been with Him… you won’t need to convince anyone. It’s a natural by-product of time spent with the one
- So here we are — the end of this Face to Face journey. And the question still remains: Is there visible change in your life because you’ve been with God? Not religious effort. Not surface-level filters. Not performance. Real, radiant, Spirit-formed change.
- You can’t fake God’s presence. You can’t hide His glory. And if you’ve really encountered Him — you can’t stay the same.
- That’s the kind of church we’re going to be — a people who don’t settle for the appearance of transformation. We’re going to be the ones who go up the mountain. Who stay long enough for His glory to mark us. Who come down different — and stay different — because we’ve been with Him.
- So if your shine is fading, get back into His presence.
- If your flesh is fighting, get back to the altar.
- If the world has dulled your hunger, get face to face again.
- Because when the real change comes, you won’t have to post about it.
- People will know. And they’ll want it, too.
