TAKE HEED WHAT YOU HEAR. How is your hearing? I am reading through the book of Mark currently and one small verse spoke to me in Mark 4. The Lord tells us the parable of the sower. The sower sows the Word of God and it falls on different kinds of soil. I saw through this set of scripture that there are two principles for receiving the Word- the condition of your soil, and the effectiveness of your hearing.
“Then He said to them, “Take heed what you hear. With the same measure you use, it will be measured to you; and to you who hear, more will be given.” Mark 4:24 NKJV
I’ve written multiple dailies on the condition of your soil, but how is your hearing? The Lord tells us, “Take heed what (and how) you hear. To you who hear, more will be given”. It’s an admonition to keep my ears clean and my hearing attuned to His Word. “Take heed” means to consider and pay close attention to improve your hearing, not just what you are hearing, but how well you are hearing it. Be sure, how well you hear the Word being sown will determine your harvest.
There are four types of hearing, the best that I can figure. There is dull hearing, selective hearing, twisted or perverted hearing and ears that hear. The first is called “dull hearing”. This would reference someone that literally cannot hear at all. You could tell them the truth straight to their face and they would return a blank stare. You know the look, like a pig looking at a wristwatch. They might as well be deaf. The second is called “selective hearing”. These are the people that pick and choose to hear what they like. You might say they have “itching ears”. They want to only hear the things that make them feel good about themselves and their sin. They hear in part. The third hearing I call “twisted or perverted” hearing. They hear the Word and twist it to make it say something completely different. They change the words, meanings and definitions of words and Scripture. This is the woke crowd.
None of these three are good and not one of them will produce a harvest.
There is a fourth, “those who have ears to hear, let him hear!” These have tuned their ears to hear the Master’s voice and obey all His commands. When the Word is sown, these hear the Word, sow it in their hearts immediately, repent where needed and obey where needed. Then covering it with more good soil, they water that Word, speak on it and over it and to it, feeding it with encouragement and praying over it as they have been directed. And in time, that Word will begin to bud. It will grow big and strong and eventually produce good fruit for the harvest.
“Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life. And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.”
Galatians 6:7-9 NKJV
As sure as the sun will rise, your ability to hear the Word will determine whether or not you bring forth good fruit for the kingdom. Listen to me and hear what I am saying. Get you a cotton swab and clean out your ear wax. Pay attention to what you pay attention to. Your hearing is essential. WHAT YOU HEAR
